Tumblr, a popular blog-hosting platform, made news last week when they announced they would be banning blogs that promote self-harm, including (among other topics) those that encourage eating disorders.

What Parents Need to Know About Thinspos
Such blogs and other websites are sometimes referred to as "thinspos," or "thinspiration sites." These sites, which may contain weight loss tips and photos of extremely thin people, glamorize eating disorders. One study showed that exposure to such sites can damage self-esteem and cause people to reduce their caloric intake (sometimes without realizing it).

If You Suspect an Eating Disorder
Eating disorders are a serious health concern, and they can become more difficult to treat the longer a person goes without help. It's not easy to approach someone you think may have an eating disorder, but these tips can help the conversation go as productively as possible.
