This October marks the 29th official observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to focus on issues surrounding the second-most common cancer in women, including screening for early detection, prevention and advancements in treatment. Death rates from the cancer have been on the decline for more than 2 decades―a trend that increased awareness has helped foster and will hopefully perpetuate.
