From Heather Watkins, your About Health Editor
2011 is almost over, and many of us will be heading to parties this Saturday to ring in the new year.

The Dangers of Holiday Drinking
There are more alcohol-related traffic fatalities during the holiday season than any other time of year in the United States. Here's how to stay safe.

Avoid Drinking Too Much

Five Ways to Say No to a Drink
If you've chosen to limit your drinking, it can be tough to face peer pressure from friends (yes, even adults!). Here are five smart ways to decline a drink without feeling uncomfortable.

Do You Have a Problem?
If you have to ask, or if others in your life have told you that you do, then you may have a drinking problem. These tests can help you determine if it's time to get help.

About.com Health: The Winter Blues

If you can't see this email, click here

About.com

From Heather Watkins, your About Health Editor
Many of us have "off" days from time to time -- when we're not in the best of moods. But for some people, it goes beyond occasional sadness -- depression is a physical illness with many more symptoms than an unhappy mood.

Are You Depressed?
If you've felt out of sorts lately, check out this list of symptoms to see whether you may be suffering from depression.

It's That Time of Year
If you feel depressed only in the winter months, you may have a form of depression called seasonal affective disorder, or SAD.

Childhood Depression
Kids can get depressed, too -- and the signs might be harder to spot, since they may be less able to articulate their feelings.

Helping a Loved One With Depression
If you know someone with depression, you may feel at a loss as to how you can help. Being supportive is the best thing you can do.

If you can't see this email, click here

About.com

From Heather Watkins, your About Health Editor
The last thing you need right now -- in the midst of holiday shopping, baking, and celebrating -- is to come down with the flu. So if you haven't gotten your annual flu shot yet, what are you waiting for?

This week is National Influenza Vaccination Week, and we've teamed up with the Centers for Disease Control to make sure all your flu shot questions are answered.

In addition to the links below, visit cdc.gov/flu for info straight from the CDC, and join us on Twitter this Thursday, December 8th, at 1pm ET for a chat about all things flu. You'll find us at @aboutcomhealth, or search for #NIVW.

Everything You Need to Know
Should you get the nasal spray vaccine? Can the flu shot give you the flu? All your most pressing questions about the influenza vaccine are answered here.

Where Should You Get Your Flu Shot?
Flu shots are no longer solely available in your doctor's office. Places like airports, pharmacies, and "big box" stores are also offering flu vaccination provided by trained professionals. Learn if this might be a good option for you and your family.

Should You Get a Flu Shot If You Have Cancer?
Coming down with the flu can be life-threatening for people with weakened immune systems, like cancer patients. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you haven't yet received a flu shot.

The Flu Shot and Pregnancy
If you're pregnant, it's not just your own health you're thinking about, but your baby's, too. That's why it's extra important that you get a flu shot if you're expecting.
