News: Breaks During the Workday Help Employees "Reboot"
Frequent breaks throughout the workday help employees increase productivity, stamina, and wellbeing, according to a new study out of Texas’s Baylor University.
In fact, it might even help your aches and pains, like headaches and low back pain, that accompany extended periods of sitting in front of a computer screen.
Unlike cellphones, people “have to charge more frequently before we deplete all the way,” says the study author. The breaks provide the most benefits when they’re taken regularly, and after a significant amount of work has taken place – taking a break at 10am after coming in at 9, for instance, isn’t very productive.
The findings might appear self-evident, but federal law doesn't require employers to offer coffee breaks, or even time for lunch.
