Bipolar disorder has been getting a lot of media attention lately, with speculation about whether Charlie Sheen has the mental health condition, plus actress Catherine Zeta-Jones' recent confirmation that she was hospitalized for treatment of bipolar II disorder.

What Is Bipolar Disorder?
The condition -- also referred to as manic depression -- is most easily recognized by extreme fluctuations in mood called depressive and manic episodes.

Finding Help with Medication
The standard treatment for bipolar disorder is medication -- sometimes, a combination of meds that is unique to each person.

Behind the Mental Illness Stigma
Unfortunately, many people with a mental illness have experienced some kind of stigma. The important thing to remember: Don't let other people's bad attitudes affect your treatment.
