From Heather Loeb, your About Health Editor
Bipolar disorder has been getting a lot of media attention lately, with speculation about whether Charlie Sheen has the mental health condition, plus actress Catherine Zeta-Jones' recent confirmation that she was hospitalized for treatment of bipolar II disorder.

What Is Bipolar Disorder?
The condition -- also referred to as manic depression -- is most easily recognized by extreme fluctuations in mood called depressive and manic episodes.

Finding Help with Medication
The standard treatment for bipolar disorder is medication -- sometimes, a combination of meds that is unique to each person.

Behind the Mental Illness Stigma
Unfortunately, many people with a mental illness have experienced some kind of stigma. The important thing to remember: Don't let other people's bad attitudes affect your treatment.

From Heather Loeb, your About Health Editor
Every April, we shine a spotlight on the many children and families affected by autism spectrum disorders.

The Basics
There's a lot of information out there on autism. It can be overwhelming to sift through it, especially when the specifics can change from child to child.

Don't Believe the Myths
You've probably heard a lot about autism in the media. This is a good reminder to check the facts before believing everything you see or read.

Screening and Diagnosis of Autism
After hearing so much about autism, many parents are alert for signs of the disorder. There's not always cause for concern, but knowing what to look for could potentially lead to an earlier diagnosis and a more favorable outcome.

Treating a Child with Autism
Every autistic child has different needs, and as such, there are dozens of options for treating autism. The therapies in this list are among the most well-known.

If you can't see this email, click here

About.com

From Heather Loeb, your About Health Editor
Everyone is forgetful now and then. Perhaps you just can't find your keys for the life of you, or you neglect to pick up milk -- again -- on the way home.

Recognizing the Signs
But there are distinctions between what's normal, and what may be a symptom of Alzheimer's disease.

Can a Healthy Diet Prevent Alzheimer's?
We don't know exactly how much and for how long specific foods impact your Alzheimer's risk, but given that our diets are one thing we can control, healthy eating is a smart move.

Screening Tests for Alzheimer's Disease
If you suspect that you or a loved one are experiencing symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, there are a variety of screening tests that can be done. Actually diagnosing Alzheimer's requires a more thorough work-up, but this can be a first step.

Natural Ways to Improve Your Memory
Age-related memory loss doesn't have to be inevitable. In fact, just spending some time with your friends might help keep your brain sharp.

From Heather Loeb, your About Health Editor
For many people, the first sign of spring isn't a warm breeze in the air -- but rather the constant sneezing, congestion, and itchiness that tell us spring allergies have arrived in full force.

How to Combat Spring Allergies
Some of the prettiest things about the spring season -- trees getting their leaves, fresh flowers blooming -- are also the worst for allergy sufferers.

What Do Pollen Counts Mean?
Translation: Find out whether a walk outside is likely to leave you sneezing up a storm.

Do You Have Allergies - Or a Cold?
The symptoms of a cold can seem similar to allergies, though they typically last two weeks or less -- while allergies seem to drag on forever.

Get Some Relief
Spring isn't any fun if you're a sniffling mess. Figure out how to actually enjoy the outdoors.
